Library workers’ union to take vote of no confidence in library director March 23

The library workers’ union, AFSCME Local 3350, will hold a special meeting March 23 to conduct a vote of no confidence in Rockford Public Library Director Frank Novak. Results of the vote will be announced in a news conference at 7:30 p.m., March 23.

“Novak is out of step with Rockford residents who rely on public libraries,” the union said in a press release. “His radical agenda to purge the library system’s books, close library locations and increasingly limit library holdings to only digital materials has been met with widespread community opposition.

“Rather than reducing access, library employees have urged Novak to implement a plan developed by the union to resume Sunday library hours at little or no cost,” the union’s release said.
