Former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf arrested for allegedly breaking into home to steal prescription drugs

Former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf was arrested April 2 for allegedly breaking into a home outside Great Falls, Mont., and stealing prescription medications.
The April 2 arrest came days after Leaf posted a $76,000 bond on similar charges.
Leaf was arrested Friday, March 30, after police found oxycodone pills in his golf bag. An acquaintance of Leaf’s said Leaf stole the medications from his home.
The April 2 arrest came after homeowners walked into their home Sunday, April 1, to find a “tall man with an athletic build” inside. The man told the homeowners he was at the wrong address and left. Three bottles of prescription medications were later discovered to be missing from the home.
According to reports, after providing a description of the man in their home, including his “shiny black loafers,” the homeowners later picked Leaf out of a photo lineup.
After a search of Leaf’s home, 89 hydrocodone pills were found loose in the pocket of one of Leaf’s bathrobes. According to police, those pills are not believed to be the pills missing from the home that was allegedly burglarized.
Leaf was the No. 2 overall pick in the 1998 draft behind Peyton Manning. He spent two seasons with the San Diego Chargers and one with the Dallas Cowboys before failing to make another NFL roster. In three seasons, Leaf completed 48.4 percent of his passes for 3,666 yards, 14 touchdowns and 36 interceptions.
