Construction contract approved for green roof at Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens

The Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners approved a construction contract for the installation of a green roof at Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens, 1354 N. Second St., Rockford. Christiansen, Inc., was awarded the construction contract in the amount of $108,277. Construction is set to take place between July 2 and July 13.
Green roof highlights include the following:
• Viewing deck able to accommodate 20-30 people;
• Insulates building and helps conserve energy;
• Extends roof life;
• Storm water detention and retention; and
• Habitat for pollinators including birds and insects.
Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens is a LEED Certified facility. LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is an internationally recognized green building certification. The new green roof system will increase LEED points at the Conservatory.
A green roof at Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens is the first project of its kind in the Rockford Park District.

This is alot of money for a conservatory however all know that this will be a huge conservatory.
