Local MoveOn.org ‘Tax the 1% Day of Action’ protest April 17

Local MoveOn.org [1] activists will host a “Tax the 1% Day of Action” protest at 12:15 p.m., Tuesday, April 17.
The protest will be in the parking lot in front of Chase Bank, 6600 E. State St., Rockford.
In a press release, MoveOn.org stated the following:
“The 1 percent has politicians doing their bidding once again. The GOP just proposed a budget that slashes Medicare, Social Security, and other vital programs for the 99 percent while giving $3 trillion in tax giveaways to corporations and the wealthy. Our tax code is already rigged for the 1 percent — how does it makes sense that big corporations and millionaires have lower tax rates than the 99 percent?
“Our economy works best when we value working families, everyone plays by the same rules, and everyone contributes their fair share,” the release continued. “That’s why on April 17, the 99 percent will organize hundreds of ‘Tax the 1%’ protests to demand that corporate tax-dodgers and the rich pay their fair share.
“On ‘Tax the 1%’ Day,” the release explained, “there will be marches, rallies and protests at big, tax-dodging banks and symbolic places around the country. The purpose is to show the disparity in the tax code between the 99 percent and the 1 percent. We’ll magnify the disparity so that millions of voters see how rigged the system is — and help draw a line in the sand before the election.”
