Police arrest second suspect in Jan. 5 home invasion that left first suspect dead

Rockford police have arrested the second suspect in a Jan. 5 home invasion that occurred at 1114 12th Ave. and that left the first suspect dead at the scene.
Maurecus Q. Adams, 27, was arrested in the 3500 block of Elm Street April 12. He has been charged with first-degree murder and probation violation.
At approximately 10:56 p.m., Jan. 5, police responded to a report of a home invasion with shots fired. Upon arrival, officers determined two suspects, one who was armed with a handgun, had entered the residence and demanded money. During the home invasion, a resident of the home was able to arm themselves and shoot one of the two suspects. The suspect who was shot died at the scene, while the second suspect fled on foot.
