Annie Get Your Gun is the award-winning musical by Irving Berlin that opened originally on Broadway in 1946. It comes to life again on the Dakota High School stage April 19-21.
The infamous Annie Oakley (Maddie Aalund) is the best shot around, and she manages to support her little brother and sisters (Kwynsee Kaiser, Lindy Baugus, Jacob Smith) by selling the game she hunts. She is discovered by Mr. Wilson (Jon Dieken), the hotel proprietor, and challenges Mr. Frank Butler (Skylar Boyer) to a shooting contest. After the contest, Col. Buffalo Bill (Colin Ebbers) is sure that he must convince sharp-shooter Annie Oakley to join his famous Wild West Show.
The story continues with the entrances of Dolly (Sarah Thompson) and Winnie Tate (Eryn Johnson), Tommy Keeler (Travis Kohlbauer) and the Indian legends, Pawnee Bill (Alex Delgadillo) and the Great Chief Sitting Bull (Jameel Buss0.
Dakota High School is presenting the revival version of Annie Get Your Gun, which opened on Broadway on March 4, 1999, at the Marquis Theatre. Peter Stone reworked the original 1946 musical to build a Wild West show within a show and added several characters to enrich the historical tale. The story and the score were updated to fit a more contemporary audience, yet include all of the original tunes of the Irving Berlin original.
Showtime each night is 7 p.m. Tickets are $6 for adults, $5 for students and senior citizens. Get $1 discount coupons by purchasing a Western duck or wearing “Western attire” to the show. So, grab your cowboy boots and come kick up your heels for an evening of fun-filled family entertainment.
