April 21 rally to address changes at Rockford Public Library

Rockford’s libraries are threatened with closure. Books are already disappearing in huge numbers from the downtown branch, with no explanation to the public of what is going on.
A rally in support of the Rockford Public Library system and its librarians, many of whom are threatened with job loss, will be from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April 21, in front of the Rockford Public Library Main Branch, 215 N. Wyman St.
The public is also encouraged to attend the Library Board meeting at 6 p.m., Monday, April 23, in the auditorium of the Main Branch (accessible on Mulberry Street). The auditorium has a capacity of 140.
A maximum of 15 speakers will be allowed to address the board with a 2-minute speech. Speakers are urged to appear prior to 6 p.m. to ensure they have a chance to be heard.
