Girl Scouts host blood, marrow drive in Belvidere April 21

BELVIDERE, Ill. — The Boone Service Unit of the Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois is celebrating the organization’s 100th anniversary by hosting a community-wide blood and marrow drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 21.
The blood and marrow drive will be at Open Bible Church & Academy, 8567 Town Hall Road, Belvidere, Ill.
The Girl Scouts have set a goal to collect 100 pints of blood, organ/tissue registrants, and marrow registry members to commemorate 100 years of community service.
Schedule a time to donate by calling Diana Ward at (815) 547-7536, and walk-ins are welcome. Join the organ/tissue registry or marrow registry without an appointment.
Donating blood is safe and simple. You are most likely able to donate if you are at least 17 years old (16-year-olds may donate with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in general good health.
People taking medications are not necessarily disqualified. The Rock River Valley Blood Center (RRVBC) has four community donor centers throughout the area (Belvidere, Freeport and Rockford), as well as many mobile blood drives. The RRVBC serves as a centralized, community blood center and is the sole provider of blood products and services to Beloit Memorial Hospital, Edgerton Hospital and Health Services, FHN, Mercy Harvard Hospital, OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, Rochelle Community Hospital, Rockford Health System, SwedishAmerican Health System and SwedishAmerican Medical Center — Belvidere.
