Hands Around the Courthouse ceremony for Child Abuse Prevention Month set for April 24

The 11th Annual Hands Around the Courthouse ceremony in recognition of National Child Abuse Prevention Month will be from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m., Tuesday, April 24, at the Winnebago County Criminal Justice Center, 650 W. State St., Rockford.
Judge Rosemary Collins, chairman of the 17th Judicial Circuit Court Family Violence Coordinating Council will speak at the ceremony.
Those wishing to participate in the ceremony should gather inside the Criminal Justice Center’s main entrance at 12:15 p.m. Youth from the Violence Enders Program of the Violence Prevention Collaborative will provide musical entertainment and a brief presentation.
“Children are our future, and their early years significantly impact their future success,” Collins said. “As concerned members of this community, we are responsible for providing support to families and helping to ensure each child is afforded a safe and healthy childhood. There are many things we can do to help prevent child abuse and neglect.”
The general public is invited and encouraged to attend the ceremony. Participants will move outside after the presentation to unroll a blue ribbon to show support for the children in our community.
