Man sentenced to 25 years for 2010 strangulation of ex-girlfriend

James Bruce Agee, 46, pled guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced by Judge Gary Pumilia to 25 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years mandatory supervised release.
Oct. 18, 2010, Agee walked into the Criminal Justice Center and indicated to security officers that he killed his ex-girlfriend, Denise Davis. Rockford police went to the home of Davis and found her unresponsive. She was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. The pathologist ruled her death was the result of asphyxiation consistent with strangulation.
First-degree murder is a class M felony with a possible sentencing range of 20 to 60 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections with a three-year mandatory period of supervised release.
This sentence is to be served at 100 percent.
