May 10 Shelter Care Spring Luncheon to aid programs for homeless, mentally ill

Shelter Care Ministries’ Annual Spring Luncheon will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, May 10, at the Tebala Shrine Temple, 7910 Newburg Road, Rockford. Tickets are $35 per person.
The theme of Shelter Care’s first fund-raising event of the year is “Out of Darkness, Voices of Hope.” It will spotlight the many ways Shelter Care is providing a hand up and out of homelessness to families and the mentally ill in its programs.
As part of the luncheon festivities, music and song will be presented by Jubilee Center members, piano music will accompany pre-luncheon social time, and a Marketplace will entice attendees to purchase handmade soaps, jams, spring decor and a myriad of other fun items.
Tables of 10 or single reservations will be available for purchase at $35 per person. Reservations will be accepted by calling (815) 964-5520.
Shelter Care Ministries was established in 1984, by Emmanuel Episcopal Church, as a response to the needs of a growing homeless population. The programs have expanded since then to include Jubilee Center, a daytime drop-in center serving individuals with chronic mental illness, emergency/transitional or permanent supportive housing programs for families that are homeless and a drop-in day center (MAYA’s House) for homeless children whose families are moving from homeless to housing.
