Dodge Dart to debut at Belvidere’s Chrysler Assembly Plant May 7

The first Dodge Dart will roll off the Belvidere Chrysler Assembly Plant assembly line today, Monday, May 7.
The Dart, which has received favorable reviews (“2013 Dodge Dart First Drive: (Insert Obvious Pun Here): Yes, It Hits the Bull’s-Eye [2],” April 27, Motor Trend; and “Test Drive: Dodge Dart a delightful surprise [3],” April 28, USA Today), will be available for buyers immediately.
The production of the Dart has brought 1,800 jobs to the Belvidere plant, which was closed as recently as three years ago as Chrysler reorganized under bankruptcy.
The addition of the 1,800 jobs brings the plant’s total workforce to more than 4,500 employees. The plant is the Rockford area’s largest manufacturing employer.
Chrysler invested more than $600 million and built a more than 600,000-square-foot body shop in Belvidere in 2011 in preparation for the Dart production.
Introduced at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit Jan. 9, the Dart will replace the Caliber on the production line in Belvidere. The Dart will be the company’s first compact sedan since the Neon was discontinued in 2005.
