Durand man killed in crash on Illinois Route 75

At approximately 7:55 a.m., Tuesday, May 8, Illinois State Police District 16 responded to a motor vehicle crash on Illinois Route 75 approximately a quarter-mile east of Goeke Road in Winnebago County.

The investigation found a red 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Daniel Toedte, 44, of Durand, Ill., was traveling east on Illinois Route 75. The Chevrolet struck a green 2006 Autocar garbage truck parked on the side of the road. The garbage truck is operated by Gill’s Disposal of Freeport, Ill.

Toedte suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Toedte was wearing a seatbelt and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. The driver of the garbage truck, Scott Nesemeier, 53, of Freeport, Ill., was out of his truck at the time of the crash and was not injured.

No citations have been issued.

Illinois State Police District 16 continues to investigate the crash and a crash reconstruction has begun. Assisting agencies include Illinois State Police District 15, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, Winnebago County Coroner’s Office and Durand Fire Department.
