Park PLAYers teen applicants sought

Staff Report

Rockford Area Lutheran Ministries is once again offering first-time job opportunities for young teens, ages 14 and 15, to participate as paid staff members in the Park PLAYers, a nonviolent conflict resolution playground program beginning its 19th season this summer

Lutheran Ministries is looking for youth who are committed to nonviolence, open to learning and embracing new skills, willing to function in a team setting, have leadership potential, and are comfortable working with children.

To be considered for a staff position, all interested teens must participate in a required interview at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1829 N. Rockton Ave. (three blocks north of Auburn Street, directly across from West Middle School) on either Saturday, May 12 or Saturday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to noon. Teens must be present at 10 a.m. to participate in the interview process, and a parent or guardian is expected to accompany them. Teens will need to obtain a worker’s permit if hired.

The Park PLAYers program starts June 11 and continues each Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon, 12:30-3:30 p.m., through July 26 at Liberty Park, on the corner of Morgan Street and Central Avenue in southwest Rockford.

Lutheran Ministries, working in cooperation with community childcare agencies and the Rockford Park District, has provided conflict management playground programming since 1994. Since its inception, the program has offered employment to more than 380 teens, with daily attendance figures reaching nearly 12,000 children who have been served.

For more information about the Park PLAYers or for an application, contact the Lutheran Ministries office at (815) 962-4279 or RALMmail@aol.com.
