House at 1010 Eighth St. razed following fire

The Rockford Fire Department was dispatched to 1010 Eighth St., Rockford, at 10:51 p.m., Thursday, May 10, for a reported house fire.

First arriving fire crews found heavy smoke and fire at the rear of the two-story structure. After battling the blaze for nearly an hour, firefighters were pulled from the interior of the house because of extensive damage to the rare of the unoccupied and condemned structure.

Rockford Building Department crews arrived and razed the heavily-damaged building.

Two nearby detached garages at 1014 Eighth St. and 1213 Ninth Ave. also suffered minor damage because of radiated heat from the fire.

Preliminary damage estimates were for $50,000 to the 1010 Eighth Ave. house, $2,000 to the garage at 1213 Ninth Ave. and $200 to the garage at 1014 Eighth St.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries during firefighting operations.
