"Because of the drastic decline in mail volume, the Postal Service is in a fiscal crisis and must take action to reduce the size of its mail processing network."

I was under the impression that the "crisis" was a result of them being required to fund retirement costs 75 years into the future inside a 10 year span.

Seems pretty much like sabotauge to me. I don't want to wait a three days longer for my mail, and I sure as heck don't want a private interest controlling the flow of physical communications in this country down the road.

Good article but it doesn't mention the fact that the post office is forced to pay $5.5 billion to cover the health care costs of future employees. Employees that aren't even born yet. If not for this ridiculous payment the USPS would have been in the black five out of the last six years. This is purely republicans trying to privatize the post office and break some of the last great unions. It has nothing to do with the post offices' finances.

Another large, empty piece of land where another large, empty factory building will sit for years, maybe a few decades. In this case, another 2-3 days to receive mail will force many to use UPS and FedEx more than usual... that's the data they're not talking about. Everything is math, and this region doesn't have enough qualified leaders with proper math skills and enough passionate anger to speak up for people. Bottom line is complacency. Complacency from our community, leaders and press. Isn't it time for everyone to get angry for once?
