Two arrested for criminal damage to mailboxes in Rockford, Machesney Park

During the month of May, at least 18 incidents of criminal damage to mailboxes have been reported to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department and the Rockford Police Department.
Explosive devices (commercial fireworks) were placed inside of the mailboxes and ignited, causing heavy damage to boxes.
The incidents have taken place in various sections of the county to include Rockford and Machesney Park.
An investigation conducted by detectives of the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department and the Rockford Police Department has led to the arrests of two subjects. Both were taken into custody May 18.
The State’s Attorney’s Office has authorized charges against Jeffrey J. Valentine, 22, of Rockford, and Kyle A. Foster, 22, of Rockford. They are both charged with three counts of criminal damage to property.
Both Valentine and Foster were lodged in the Winnebago County Jail.
