18-year-old arrested on gun charges after shots fired in Concord Commons

Shortly after 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 22, Rockford Police patrol officers and Gang Unit detectives responded to the 3500 block of Elm Street in reference to shots fired. The 3500 block of Elm Street is in the Concord Commons Housing Complex. Officers and detectives were unable to locate anyone or anything struck by gunfire.
Officers and detectives developed information that the suspect in the shooting incident may be at 632 Newport Ave. The residence was checked, and officers located James A. Jones, 18, of Rockford, inside. A loaded 9mm pistol was also located inside the residence. Jones was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful use of weapons by a felon, unlawful possession of a firearm by a gang member and no Firearm Owner’s Identification card.
Jones is on probation for resisting arrest.
