Police in search of suspect in May 20 home invasion on Ranger Street

Shortly after 10 a.m., Sunday, May 20, Rockford police responded to an address in the 500 block of Ranger Street in reference to a home invasion. Officers were advised the suspect, Robert M. Goldsmith, entered the apartment and struck the victim with a baseball bat.
Rockford police detectives conducted a follow-up investigation into the incident. The facts of the investigation were reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office and Goldsmith, 43, of Rockford, was charged with home invasion.
Rockford police detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Goldsmith. The bond on the warrant was set at $500,000.
