Woman arrested in 2011 death of her 6-week-old son

Sept. 22, 2011, South Beloit Police officers were sent to 608 Wheeler Ave. in South Beloit, Ill., in regards to the death of an infant boy. Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies were sent to assist.

Upon arrival, South Beloit officers and deputies found 6-week-old Jackson Betts deceased. An autopsy conducted by the Winnebago County Coroner’s office determined the death was because of lack of adequate food and medical care.

Results of an investigation conducted by Winnebago County Sheriff’s detectives were reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office, and a warrant was authorized for first-degree murder for the child’s mother, Kayla A. Lund, 23.

The warrant was issued May 23, and Lund was arrested the same day and lodged in the Winnebago County Jail.
