Auburn High student arrested after being found with gun, cannabis

A 17-year-old Rockford Auburn High School student was arrested May 24 for aggravated unlawful use of weapons, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of cannabis after being stopped in the school’s parking lot as a truant.

At approximately 1:15 p.m., Thursday, May 24, Auburn High School faculty stopped Guillermo Ocampo in the parking lot of the school, as he was truant.

In the course of conducting their truancy investigation, it was determined Ocampo was in possession of green plant material that was later determined to be 1.8 grams of cannabis.

Officers of the Rockford Police Department School Liaison Unit continued with the investigation, and upon searching Ocampo’s backpack located a loaded two-shot derringer, along with two additional rounds of ammunition. Ocampo was arrested and lodged in jail.
