Rockford City Market begins third season today, June 1

Online Staff Report

Rockford City Market kicks off its third season from 3 to 8 p.m., today, Friday, June 1, along Water Street between State and Jefferson streets in downtown Rockford.

The market, which runs every Friday through Oct. 12 (hours change to 3-7 p.m. after Labor Day) includes local growers and vendors who sell natural products, including vegetables, fruit, eggs, meat, cheeses, flowers, herbs, baked goods, wine and healthy snacks, as well as artisans and vendors.

Most vendors and performers are from a 150-mile radius of Rockford. A beer garden with live music takes place on the terrace overlooking the market, and demonstrations and kids’ activites ensure a fun and interactive learning environment.

The opening market will feature music by Frank Calvagna & Mike Youngblood, with Midway Village and the YMCA Climbing Wall as activities.

Last year’s market attracted 40,000 visitors throughout the season, up from 20,000 in its first year in 2010. Visit rockfordcitymarket.com for more details.
