Film shows how school children are being prepared to be ‘global citizens’

I am a Baby Boomer, schooled in the ’50s and ’60s. I attended Catholic school, but, except for the pervasive religious education, I doubt content differed much. History books presented America as a land of freedom and opportunity.
The idea that American students should be ASHAMED of their nation wouldn’t even have been hinted at in textbooks. In the 1970s, a Texas couple named Mel and Norma Gabler began reviewing textbook content. No publisher was willing to release a text unacceptable to Texas. The Gablers’ most-remembered criticism was of a 1973 fifth-grade American history text containing more material on Marilyn Monroe than George Washington.
Where are the Gablers now?? Since 2005, another concern has arisen. Michael Chapman, author of the paper “Education for Sustainable Tyranny,” says UNESCO (United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization) declared the decade from 2005-2015 “The Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).” This is Agenda 21-speak.
The Chapman film, Transformational Education — Preparing our children for global citizenship, will be shown at Northern IL Voters Forum Movie Night, 5414 Reimer Drive, Roscoe, just two doors east of the Main Street Post Office, on Thursday, June 7, at 6:30 p.m. The public is welcome.
