Oppose the landfill expansion!
To Whom It May Concern:
I strongly oppose expansion of the landfill!!!
The only time they keep the area somewhat cleaned up is when they want something. They continually say they are working on the stench, but you would think that, if they really were working on it, they would have done something to eliminate the odor during these past years.
Naturally, the union workers there are in favor of it because of job security for them, but they don’t live in the area, so they couldn’t care less about the stench. How many long-term jobs will be lost by companies not going to the Industrial Park across the highway?
We were told that county board members were not allowed to talk with anyone about the dump; yet, they voted on it, discussed how they could spend the money, even suggesting a scholarship program (this state has quite a reputation for that already). Does that disqualify them from voting? I know the chairman was at the meetings; is he disqualified from bringing it up in a meeting? I heard there were a couple board members at various meetings, and will they disqualify themselves?
From everything I’ve seen and heard, the only reason the county board wants the expansion is it gives them the opportunity to spend money from their “slush fund” for anything they might conceive to be an economic development.
It’s disgraceful that they are more concerned about money than people and their lives. It’s too bad we don’t have board members that live close by; they would realize just how bad it gets and how it affects our lives.
If the board does pass this, I’m sure that won’t be the last of it, and I would strongly encourage people that live in the “stink zone” to protest their taxes!
