OSF Healthcare names new chief medical officer
Kathleen Forbes, M.D., MSMM, CPE, has accepted the new position of chief medical officer and chief clinical officer for OSF Healthcare System. Dr. Forbes started June 1 and reports to Kevin Schoeplein, CEO for OSF Healthcare System.
As the system chief medical officer and chief clinical officer, Dr. Forbes will provide leadership for clinical programs, including assisting in setting goals, resource management, implementing improvement and measuring clinical performance.
In addition, Dr. Forbes will help lead the clinical transformation and integration of care across the care continuum, within and beyond OSF, including its integrated and aligned clinical partners.
Dr. Forbes will also be the system executive responsible for the leadership activities of the e-ICU program, Supportive Care, SimNext Simulation Center, the OSF Innovation & Value Creation Center as well as system-wide efforts over graduate and postgraduate education.
Forbes comes to OSF from the University of North Texas, Fort Worth, where she served as the executive vice president of Clinical Affairs and Business Development for UNT Health Science Center and the president and CEO of UNTHealth, the clinical enterprise of the health science center. In this dual role since 2008, she oversaw clinical quality, patient safety, clinical innovation, performance improvement, clinical operations, practice growth and built effective community partnerships while collaborating with local hospitals on projects and alliances that have benefited the community. For four years prior to joining UNT, Dr. Forbes was the senior vice president, chief medical officer and chief quality officer for TriHealth, a large hospital system in Cincinnati.
Dr. Forbes earned her medical doctorate from the Medical College of Ohio, Toledo, and completed her Family Medicine residency at Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio. She is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Family Physicians and a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners. She earned a Master of Science in Medical Management (MSMM) degree from the University of Texas, Dallas, and is a board-certified physician executive. Dr. Forbes is a member of the American College of Physician Executives and the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Dr. Forbes has served on multiple board and leadership roundtables, which included board membership on the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council Foundation Education and Research Board, the Consolidated Health Services Board, a member of the Catholic Health Initiatives Physician Executive Council, the executive steering committee and medical directors’ council for the Greater Cincinnati Council Quality Improvement Project, the National Healthcare Quality Roundtable, the Leadership Institute and the National Healthcare Chief Medical Officers Roundtable.
