Photo: 40 years for Charlotte’s Web

The 4Oth Anniversary of Charlotte’s Web brought four decades of joy, new and familiar faces to the indoor stage of the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center and the new home of the Web, Emerson House, utilizing the first and second floors of the historic mansion for auction and oral history recording areas, as well as its parking lot for an outdoor stage. For “Old Webbies,” it was a chance to reminisce, and enjoy the return of old friends like world-renowned artist John Berry, now of Portland, Ore., and soon to be a guest artist in Germany. Between Planes, with Samantha Owen, Ron Holm and John Bishoff pictured above (Janel Nelson and Dave Timmcke not pictured) was one of the new/old groups that brought even the ghost of Roy Orbison to life. The two-day celebration, which began with an art showing of classic Charlotte’s Web monthly poster art at the Kyptonite music club Friday night, June 1, was topped off with a full afternoon and evening of wonderful performers Saturday, June 2, much to the delight of Karen and Bill Howard (inset picture). They and their daughter, Lani Richardson, now the Web’s executive director, extend many thanks to all who volunteered, offered their music and attended this memorable 40th anniversary show June 1-2, 2012.
