Rock Valley an exclusive Apple iOS training campus
Staff Report
Rock Valley College (RVC) is now the premier and exclusive Apple iOS training campus in Illinois, Indiana and Missouri.
RVC applied for the “iOS Developer University Program” earlier this year and was approved during the first week of May.
The designation means RVC students will learn how to develop, distribute and market software applications for the Apple iPad, iPhone and iTouch devices.
The Apple developer license is $99 per developer. However, Apple has created an educational developer license program that allows 200 students and faculty members the ability to teach, create and distribute apps at no cost to the students or faculty of the college.
The first iOS development course will be offered at RVC in spring 2013. In addition, a Pell Grant was obtained to purchase 10 iPads for students to view the applications they develop in a real-world scenario.
Students who successfully complete the iOS development course at RVC will be poised to sell their own apps on the Apple app store. Furthermore, the job market is demanding more and more iOS developers.
The Apple App store has close to 1 million free or paid apps created by third-party developers. In addition, Apple celebrated its 10 billionth downloaded app Jan. 22.
RVC Associate Professor Chuck Konkol is teaching and managing the “iOS Developer University Program” starting in spring 2013. For more about this new program, contact Konkol at c.konkol@rockvalleycollege.edu or (815) 921-3164.
