Rockford author Thomas L. Vaultonburg releases first children’s book
Zombie Logic Press has announced its first children’s book, The Toughskin Rhinoceros Wrangler Company, written by Thomas L. Vaultonburg, illustrated by Jenny Mathews, and with a special contribution of “Amazing Rhino Facts” by Daniella R. Mathews, is now available for pre-order.
The exquisitely minimalistic illustrations complement a graceful, yet silly, poem about Rhino Jack and his ability to wrangle petulant, lovesick rhinos with rump-shaking fun.
“On the surface, it’s about the tiniest rhino wrangler and his adventure,” Mathews said. “But underneath, it’s about swaying the world with love and fun. Leading by example.”
Vaultonburg founded Zombie Logic Press in 1997. He has published four volumes of poetry, Concave Buddha (1991), Detached Retinas (1997), Flesh Wounds (2011) and Submerged Structure (2012). His poems have appeared in more than 200 publications and anthologies, including Exquisite Corpse, Caliban and Slipstream.
A lifelong resident of Rockford, Vaultonburg enjoys zombie movies, Devo, and is a fan of the Chicago Cubs.
Mathews’ art can be found at TinyDrawings.blogspot.com and Zombie Logic Press. The former first lady of Pecatonica, Ill., taught art at the Rockford Art Museum, has shown work at MEMO, participated in the Pecatonica Library Art Gala and recently in The Steppin’ Out Art Gala with the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation in Houston. She lives in Houston with her two children, where she plays roller derby and paints. She plans to return to Rockford this summer.
Mathews is 8 years old and enjoys riding her bike, reading and learning about animals.
The Toughskin Rhinoceros Wrangler Company can be ordered through RhinoWrangler.com and is expected in stores June 2012.
