Antique cars to be featured at Freeport’s Aug. 11 Cruise Night

FREEPORT, Ill. — Cruise Night 2012, sponsored by Freeport Downtown Development Foundation, will be Aug. 11 in historic downtown Freeport.
As part of the event, a separate display of antique cars will again be sponsored by the Freeport Public Library in their parking lot. Typically, 60 to 70 antique autos are displayed. The antique cars are chosen by invitation only, and there is no charge for the invited cars to park in the library lot or to cruise.
An eligible antique car is one that is at least 25 years old (it would qualify for antique State of Illinois license plates) and is in its original form, meaning it is not a street rod, and it has its original drive train. It may be restored or “barn fresh,” and it may have appropriate accessories or equipment to make it a safe and roadworthy vehicle.
Past participants will be contacted for this year’s show, but if you would like your car to be considered, one of the Antique Lot chairmen should be contacted. Call either Dick Farnsworth at (815) 238-6124 or Bob Logothetti at (815) 990-1082.
Antique cars will be parked in the library lot beginning at 3:30 p.m. Cruising, which is from 7 to 10 p.m., begins with an Antique Car Parade of two laps at 7 p.m.
