Carl Cole and friends featured at ‘Jazz at Emerson’ June 14
• Rockford pianist/vocalist Carl Cole joins his wife, vocalist Dianna Cole, and son, bassist Andrew Cole, in jazz tribute
Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center’s next “Jazz at Emerson” concert with Carl Cole and friends will be at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, June 14, at the historic Emerson House, 420 N. Main St.,Rockford.
Rockford’s own multitalented pianist/vocalist Carl Cole will join his wife, vocalist Dianna Cole, and son, bassist Andrew Cole, to present “Four Fathers: A Tribute to Scott Joplin, W.C. Handy, Duke Ellington and Dr. Thomas A. Dorsey.” Set list to include works by Fats Waller, Nat King Cole, George Gershwin, Ray Charles, and more, plus a few patriotic tunes in honor of Flag Day.
Freewill donations will be accepted; suggested amount is $10. Proceeds to benefit the musicians and the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center.
“Jazz at Emerson” takes place one Thursday per month, 5:30-7 p.m., at the Emerson House in the heart of downtown Rockford.
Concertgoers can enjoy the swinging sounds of jazz, relax with a glass of wine and light refreshments, and meet the performers after the program, which is about an hour-and-a-half in length. Doors open at 5 p.m. Seating is limited.
