National Association of Counties awards Winnebago County a NACo Achievement Award

Winnebago County has been awarded a 2012 NACo Achievement Award for the program titled, The Resource Intervention Center: A 21st Century Public Safety Model — Criminal Justice & Public Safety.
In-jail alternative-to-incarceration programs are increasingly common as local and state criminal justice systems adopt the best practices for reducing recidivism. Stand-alone facilities like Winnebago County’s Resource Intervention Center are rare, if, indeed, they exist at all. The Resource Intervention Center is the only facility of its kind in Illinois. It is a unique, evidence-based, successful collaboration among the criminal justice system, the courts, the county government, social services providers and the community.
The Resource Intervention Center is a one-stop, stand-alone center for life-changing, alternatives-to-incarceration programs for moderate and high-risk criminals on probation.
NACo will host the 16th Annual Awards Ceremony Sunday, July 15, 2012, in Allegheny County, Pa.
