Governor at Rockford’s Clock Tower June 15 to sign bill to protect letter carriers

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn (D) will be in Rockford Friday, June 15, to sign into law a bill designed protect letter carriers.
Quinn will be at Best Western Clock Tower Resort and Conference Center, 7801 E. State St., Rockford, to sign into law Senate Bill 3665, proposed in response to a recent rise in criminal acts perpetrated against postal letter carriers. The bill is designed to allow for tougher sentencing of people convicted of crimes against letter carriers while in performance of their duties.
The bill-signing will be at 1 p.m., Friday, June 15, in Clock Tower’s Wallingford Ballroom during the Illinois Association
of Letter Carriers convention.
Also expected in attendance at the bill-signing are Illinois Lt. Gov. Shelia Simon (D), Illinois State Sen. Jacqueline Collins, D-Chicago (sponsored and co-wrote the bill), U.S. Rep. Danny Davis, D-Ill., U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill., Illinois Letter Carriers Association President Ken Christy, Chicago Area Letter Carriers President Mack Julion (proposed and co-wrote the bill), and more than 600 letter carriers from around the state.
