Blanche Martin Scholarship winners announced
Winnebago County Retired Teachers Association (WCRTA) has announced the 2012 Blanche J. Martin Scholarship winners. These scholarships go to promising elementary education teachers. The scholarships went to Amy Wieting ($2,000), with Kalah Polsean, Allison Ford, Samantha Hoffman and Christopher Davis each receiving $1,000.
Wieting is a recent graduate of Rockford Lutheran, a Young American selection, active in basketball and track, and is headed to St. Norbert College in DePere, Wis. She is the daughter of Sue and Brian Wieting.
Polsean is attending Arizona State University, Tempe. Her major is elementary education with English as a Second Language. She was actively involved in Key Club and a Young American selection while at Rockford Auburn High School. Her parents are Jeff and Jill Polsean.
Ford has attended Rock Valley and North Park University and is planning to attend the American College of Education in Indianapolis. She has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and an LBS1 endorsement from North Park University. This was her second year as a special education resource teacher at Bloom Elementary for kindergarten-second grade children, whom she absolutely adores! She is continuing her education at the American College of Education to earn a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction. Doug and Gayle Ford are her parents.
Hoffman graduated from Rockford Boylan Catholic High School, where she was active in National Honor Society and S.A.R.O. Club. She has served as a summer camp counselor the past four years and is headed for St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa. Her parents are Libby and Tim Hoffman.
Davis has attended Carroll University and will be transferring to Felician College this fall. He will be on the golf team as he majors in elementary education. His parents are George and Christy Davis.
All scholarship winners have achieved at least a 3.8 GPA, and submitted exemplary essays. These awards were given at the June 14 WCRTA meeting at the Nicholas Conservatory.
