Rotary International president in Rockford June 21
Rotary International President-elect Sakuji Tanaka of Yashio Saitama, Japan, will be the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Rockford’s Thursday, June 21, meeting at Veterans Memorial Hall, 211 N. Main St., Rockford.
Rotary members from across the district will be in attendance. Media may be in attendance during the noon meeting. Introductions, details of Tanaka’s visit and the International Rotary’s missions, followed by Q & A will occur during a press conference to be held immediately following the meeting.
“Peace Through Service” is the theme for Tanaka’s 2012-2013 year as president, and will be the theme of his address to the club.
Tanaka will be accompanied by Rotary International Past President Ray Klinginsmith(2010-2011); Brad Lauman, former Rockford Rotary member and current manager of the Rotary International Peace Centers; administrative secretary Rosemary Obrien; and Tanaka’s personal interpreter. They will spend the morning as the guests of Rotary Club of Rockford Honorary Member John Anderson for a tea ceremony and tour of Anderson Japanese Gardens and will also visit the Keeling-Puri Peace Plaza at 2:15 p.m. after the press conference.
