Back Street Players bring ‘Steel Magnolias’ back to life
HANOVER, Ill. — In 2005, Back Street Players of Hanover, Ill., presented Robert Harling’s classic play Steel Magnolias. Back Street Players, in cooperation with the Northwest Illinois Theater Coalition, will once again bring Steel Magnolias to the local stage.
Steel Magnolias opens at the Hanover Township Hall at 7:30 p.m., June 29 and 30, and at 2 p.m., July 1. The show then moves to the Mighty Richland Players stage at the Masonic Temple in Orangeville, Ill., at 7:30 p.m., July 6 and 7, for a dessert theater, and 12:30 p.m., July 8, for dinner theater. The show closes the following weekend in Stockton, Ill., playing at Christ Lutheran Church at 7:30 p.m., July 14 and at 2 p.m., July 15.
Peter Woodruff returns as director, along with two of the original cast members: Ellen Liberg as Truvy and Mary Jo Frederick as the cantankerous but loveable Ouiser.
New to the cast are Keisha Chelberg as Annelle, Rylnn Liberg as Shelby, Kim Sigafus as Clairee and Sandy Sweitzer as M’lynn.
