Summer Clothing Drive set for July 14 at area Hilanders
LOVES PARK, Ill. — Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful (KNIB) wants you to strip your closets, dressers, basements and attics bare of your old clothes, shoes, handbags, linens, curtains, stuffed toys and other soft goods and bring them to the annual KNIB Summer Clothing Drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, July 14, at all Hilander Foods locations.
Based on the positive feedback at its recent Spring Clothing Drive, KNIB will continue accepting clothes at the previous Hilander Foods store at 3710 N. Main St., Rockford, in addition to the following six sites, by city:
Rockford — 2601 N. Mulford Road; 2514 S. Alpine Road; 3134 S. 11th St.; and 1715 Rural St.;
Cherry Valley — 2206 Barnes Blvd.; and
Roscoe — 4860 Hononegah Road.
The following items are being collected during the Summer Clothing Drive: Any and all clothing, shoes, belts, stuffed animals, purses, bedding, curtains and draperies, towels and other soft goods.
All items are to be brought in plastic bags, with no hangers. Shoes brought are to be tied together. All items will be accepted, regardless of condition.
The clothing will be distributed to needy people worldwide, primarily in Third-World nations and the U.S.
“This is a great opportunity to provide people in need with clothing that is merely taking up space in your closets and basements,” said Lori Gummow, executive director of KNIB.
According to Gummow, last spring’s clothing drive brought in 57,000 pounds of clothing and soft goods from area residents. Since the clothing drives started in October 2000, area residents have recycled nearly 3 million pounds of clothing and soft goods in the May, July and October clothing drives.
KNIB is a volunteer-driven, non-profit public education organization founded in 1988.
