July 12 deadline for Oregon Trail Days’ River Tug
Online Staff Report
OREGON, Ill. — Do you have 15 or 20 friends and relatives looking for a good time on a Sunday afternoon in July? Put together a team of competitive spirits and join in the 2012 Oregon Trail Days Festival’s inaugural Warriors vs. Outlaws River Tug at 3 p.m., Sunday, July 22, in Oregon, Ill.
The River Tug is a challenge of strength and stamina. Teams of pullers compete in an old-fashioned tug of war, but this time, the tug is across the Rock River near the Oregon dam.
Teams may be composed of up to 20 tuggers with a combined weight not to exceed 3,600 pounds. Each competition is a 3-minute pull, and the two teams pulling the greatest distance will compete for the 2012 championship award.
A maximum of 12 teams may compete in this event, so the first teams to enter will be the 2012 competitors. Invitations have been sent to several businesses and organizations in the Oregon, Ill., and surrounding communities; however, independent teams are also welcome.
The team entry fee is $200 per team. Each team member receives a special Tug shirt and opportunity to compete for the championship award.
Entry forms are available on the Oregon Trail Days’ website, www.oregontraildays.org. Team registrations should be submitted to Oregon Trail Days, 500 N. Fourth St., Oregon, Ill., by July 12. Entries will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, so early registration is recommended to secure a place in the competition. Any questions about the competition may be directed to Donna Mann, event coordinator, at (815) 732-2434.
