City urges residents to be aware of energy supply scams

The City of Rockford is alerting residents to be aware of alternative energy suppliers misrepresenting themselves as the city’s new energy supplier. Any representative from an alternative energy supplier who calls or solicits residents at their homes is not acting on behalf of the City of Rockford.

FirstEnergy Solutions will be mailing an official letter on behalf of the city announcing their selection as the city’s chosen supplier July 16. A copy of the letter is attached and informs customers of the next step in the aggregation process. FirstEnergy Solutions will not be calling individual customers to collect personal information. Residents and small business owners are automatically enrolled in the city’s aggregation program and will receive the aggregation rate unless proactively opting out via the opt-out form attached to the letter.
