Master Gardeners at John Deere Historic Site

University of Illinois Extension Ogle County Master Gardener Larry Ermey will present “Square Foot Gardening” from 10-11 a.m. and 1-2 p.m., Saturday, July 14. Location will be the John Deere Historic, 8334 Clinton St., Grand Detour, Dixon.
Square Foot Gardening is the practice of planning small but intensively planted gardens. The practice combines concepts from organic gardening methods, including a strong focus on compost, closely-planted raised beds and bio intensive attention to a small, clearly defined area. Proponents claim that the method is particularly well-suited for areas with poor soil, beginning gardeners or as adaptive recreation for those with disabilities. Participants will learn about planning, building and planting their own Square Foot Garden.
