Rock County work release program escapee sentenced to six years for possession of a weapon by a felon

Brandon Disrud, 25, pled guilty July 11 to unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and was sentenced to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections by the Judge Rosemary Collins.
June 8, Rockford police officers responded to the Rockford Inn at 3851 11th St. in reference to a Crime Stoppers tip regarding a subject who was wanted on several burglary warrants in various Illinois counties as well as an escape warrant out of Rock County, Wisconsin. Officers located the subject, who was in a room with the defendant and another male. All three subjects were wanted for escape out of Rock County, Wisconsin, and were taken into custody at the Rockford Inn. During a search of the room, officers located four handguns that had previously been reported stolen from a residential burglary in Genoa, Ill.
Unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon is a class 2 felony with a sentencing range of three to seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. However, because of the defendant’s previous criminal history, class X sentencing applies, which carries a sentencing range of six to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
