Help make wishes come true — become a wish granter!
Have you ever envisioned granting a wish? More than 10,000 children across Illinois have experienced the magic of a wish coming true, thanks to the hundreds of local volunteers and community supporters of Make-A-Wish Illinois. These children are battling life-threatening medical conditions, and are waiting for that opportunity to dream. Now is your chance to bring hope, strength and joy into their lives by becoming a Wish-Granting Volunteer with Make-A-Wish Illinois.
Make-A-Wish Illinois is seeking Wish-Granting Volunteers in the Freeport County area to grant the wishes of local children. The foundation is hosting a free training from 5:15 to 7:45 p.m., Friday, Aug. 9, in Freeport. RSVP deadline is Aug. 1.
Wish-Granting Volunteers work in teams of two to help grant the wishes of children in their community. These volunteers plan and carry out wishes from start to finish with support from the Make-A-Wish Illinois staff. This is a fun, life-changing and rewarding opportunity for adults of all ages. For children who battle conditions like leukemia, cystic fibrosis, brain tumors and other childhood diseases, Make-A-Wish Illinois provides a magical experience to help them cope with their illness and its treatment. There are NO financial obligations for the family and NO waiting lists for children to receive wishes. We need your help to make this happen in your community.
Wish Granters must be 18 and older, submit an application, background check, take two online trainings, and RSVP for a brief in-person volunteer training. The volunteers are asked to grant two to three wishes per year and drive up to two hours to do so. The commitment is for a minimum of two years. Wish Granters must contact the wish families and staff within 48-72 hours with questions or updates as needed.
