About 5,000 area residents still without power, remaining outages to be restored by Friday night

As of 2:30 p.m., Thursday, July 19, ComEd reported that 12,800 customers throughout its northern Illinois territory remained without power following heavy rain, strong wind and lightning Wednesday evening, July 18.
According to a release from ComEd, 5,000 customers in the west region (which includes Rockford), 2,300 in the north region, 3,000 in the south region and 2,500 in Chicago remained without power July 19.
ComEd reported the remaining Rockford outages would be restored by tomorrow night, Friday, July 20. However, ComEd said that in some of the hardest-hit areas, restoration is expected to take longer and may linger into Saturday, July 21.
Rockford sustained the brunt of the damage in ComEd’s territory. ComEd provides electricity to approximately 3.8 million customers across northern Illinois.
