Letter from city’s selected electric aggregation supplier, FirstEnergy Solutions, in the mail this week
Online Staff Report
The City of Rockford is reminding residents and small businesses to check their mailboxes the remainder of this week for a mailing from the city’s selected electric aggregation supplier, FirstEnergy Solutions.
The letter will arrive in a plain white envelope with an Akron, Ohio, return address. The letter provides information about the two-year agreement the city has negotiated on behalf of residents, including pricing, terms and conditions, and instructions about opting out of the program, if desired. Residents and small business owners are automatically enrolled in the city’s aggregation program and will receive the aggregation rate, unless opting out.
FirstEnergy Solutions will not be calling individual customers to collect personal information, nor will they solicit door-to-door. The only communication regarding enrollment from FirstEnergy Solutions will be in the form of this letter.

BEWARE: What they don’t tell you is that if people decide to opt out of the first energy program after they have been enrolled, ComEd will charge a fee in order to be returned to the regulated rate. They will also not allow you to shop for another supplier for a fixed “penalty” period. Also, only residential accounts and commercial accounts using 15,000 kwh of electricity per year qualify. The
.. the best thing to do is OPT OUT immediately and shop for a supplier on your own. Don’t simply shop for the lowest rate! Look for terms and conditions that protect you against financial penalties for cancellation, which I believe First Energy has. Don’t let the city fool you into thinking this is all about saving money. Because it is worth it to perhaps pay a little extra to get solid terms and conditions. This isn’t a scam, but there is alot of fine print and things the city won’t tell you just how they hoodwinked this onto the ballot.
