Roscoe man found floating dead on Rock River

Richard Leach, 30, of Roscoe, Ill., was found floating in the Rock River at approximately 6:18 a.m., Sunday, July 22, and was pronounced dead on the scene at 7:40 a.m.
The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office ruled July 23 that Leach died as a result of drowning. Toxicological tests will be available in approximately two weeks.
Police and coroner’s office units were called to the area of 100 River St., Roscoe, Ill., in regard to a body in the Rock River.
Upon arrival, Winnebago County Sheriff’s deputies and Roscoe police officers were directed to the river by a fisherman who advised he had spotted the body in the river.
Fire Department personnel were able to recover the body.
There were no obvious signs of trauma to the body. The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office took charge of the body, and an autopsy will be performed today, Monday, July 23.
Winnebago County Sheriff’s detectives are continuing with the investigation. At this time, there is no indication of foul play.
