Voluntary watering restriction in place, ban possible

As a result of the extreme heat and current drought conditions, groundwater levels in the aquifers used by the City of Rockford for its water supply have dropped.
The recently completed improvements to the city’s water system have allowed the city to meet current demands without implementing a watering ban. However, if water levels continue to drop, a watering ban may be necessary.
In an attempt to avoid a mandatory watering ban, the city is requesting that the citizens of Rockford follow a voluntary watering restriction until further notice.
City of Rockford water customers are asked to only water their lawns between the hours of 6 and 9 a.m. or 6 and 9 p.m. every other day. For even numbered addresses on even numbered calendar days and at odd numbered addresses on odd numbered days.
For tips on how to conserve water in other ways, refer to the City of Rockford website at http://rockfordil.gov/public-works/water-division.aspx [1].
The city will continue to closely monitor the aquifer levels. Your cooperation in adhering to this voluntary watering restriction will help to maintain water reserves for public health needs and fire protection.
If you have any questions regarding the voluntary watering restrictions, you may contact the City of Rockford Customer Service Center at (815) 987-5700.
