‘Reagan Trail Days’ in Dixon, Ill., Aug. 7-12

DIXON, Ill. — The six-day annual “Reagan Trail Days” in Dixon, Ill., will kick off from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 7, with a cocktail/wine party in the park next to the Reagan Boyhood Home.
Billed as “An Evening in the President’s Shadow,” it is one of the premier social events of the year in Ronald Reagan’s hometown.
The cocktail/wine party is followed Wednesday evening, Aug. 8, in the beautiful Dixon Riverfront with a free ice cream social from 6 to 8 p.m., sponsored by Culver’s.
Thursday, Aug. 9, features a community picnic in Lowell Park, where Reagan served as a lifeguard for seven consecutive summers. The charge is $2 for adults, kids 18 and younger eat free. Live music, games, face painting and free pontoon boat rides will be offered from 5 to 8 p.m.
Friday, Aug. 10, activities will include the free Musical Fridays on the Riverfront beginning at noon featuring musician Ray Rose.
Friday night will be highlighted with the Reagan Gala at Dixon’s Fine Arts Center, “The Next Picture Show.” The annual “A Place To Go Back To” segment will feature three former Dixonites talking about how growing up in Dixon influenced their lives. Other guests of honor include the USS Ronald Reagan 2011 Sailor of the Year Master at Arms Petty Officer First Class Kevin Fahlund and his wife, Susan.
Saturday, Aug. 11, has a multitude of activities including The Alzheimer’s Association Annual Duck Races, free historic trolley tours, art trunk show on the Riverfront, Mama Cimino’s Block Party, downtown sidewalk sales all day and capped off with a Second Saturdays Art Happening at several downtown venues from 6 to 8 p.m.
Sunday, Aug. 12, the Dixon Municipal Band will hold a concert at the Dixon Theatre Performing Arts Center at 4 p.m.
