Rockford Area Arts Council’s summer youth arts apprenticeship program, ArtsPlace, will culminate with an art exhibit, sale, silent auction and collaborative dance, theater, poetry and visual arts performance Thursday and Friday, Aug. 2-3.
Titled “Emerge … Rockford’s Got Talent,” the event will be in Clark Arts Center at Rockford College, 5050 E. State St. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. both evenings, with performances beginning at 7 p.m.
Admission is $5. Original works of art will be available for purchase.
ArtsPlace began June 18 at Rockford College. The program is for aspiring artists ages 14 to 18 who work under the direction of professional artists to create art to sell and perform for the public.
Proceeds earned from ticket and art sales are divided equally among the youth who successfully complete the program.
Since 1995 more than 900 youth have benefited from ArtsPlace apprenticeships, and this summer marks the 17th year of the program.
ArtsPlace artists for this year include Maya Simmons, painting; Tricia Sheridan, poetry and jewelry; Marco Basurto, sculpture; Richard Raether, theater; Tamara Newquist, dance; and Bruce McDonald, co-director.
ArtsPlace meets from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., Mondays-Thursdays, June 18 through Aug. 9, at Rockford College’s Clark Arts Center. The public is invited to visit from 1 to 3:30 p.m. to view teams at work.
