Jr. RiverHawks to hold tryouts Aug. 7-8

LOVES PARK, Ill. — The Jr. RiverHawks baseball program will hold tryouts for their fall 2012 and summer 2013 baseball teams Aug. 7-8 at RiverHawks Stadium, 4503 Interstate Blvd., Loves Park.

The tryouts will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on both days. The fall season will run from mid-August through late October, with a total of seven to nine tournaments per team. All tournaments will be local and have minimal travel. The summer season will run from June through August and also have seven to nine tournaments per team and have minimal travel.

This year, the RiverHawks are expanding their teams to three teams, and they will look as follows for the fall:

• 15 U (incoming 14-year-olds), coached by Rockford Christian Varsity Coach Mike McClellan;

• 17 U (incoming 15-, 16-, 17-year-olds), coached by Frank Barrone; and

• 17 U (incoming 15-, 16-, 17-year-olds), coached by Justin Small.

The only change in the summer is that Coach Small will be coaching a 16 U team, and coach Barrone’s team will be 17 U.

As always during the fall, several players are expected to be committed to their respective high school football teams. However, with the Jr. RiverHawks playing games on Saturdays and Sundays, the coaches feel they can work with football players’ schedules, and football players are welcome to tryout.
