Music Academy announces faculty appointments

The Music Academy of Rockford has announced the appointment of seven new staff members who will add to the depth and breadth of the Academy’s educational offerings.

Ted Stavrou joins the staff this fall as a guitar artist teacher. He earned his master’s degree in guitar performance at Northern Illinois University, where he was a student of Fareed Haque. While primarily classically trained, Stavrou moves easily between jazz and classical guitar and across a spectrum of musical styles. He is pursuing Suzuki teacher training and is interested in beginning an Academy guitar ensemble.

Betsy Dvorak earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in piano performance at Northern Illinois University, where she was a student of Don Walker. She has vast experience teaching piano and working as an accompanist. She will teach both classical music as well as a variety of alternative musical styles. Dvorak is accepting new students who wish to begin piano instruction this fall.

Ron Reiners played clarinet and bass clarinet with the South Bend Symphony, clarinet with the Tucson Symphony and clarinet, saxophone and flute with various groups including symphonies, chamber music ensembles and big bands. He attended Bemiji State University, where he studied music education and clarinet. He joins the faculty this summer and is now accepting students.

Melissa Aurand Haese began piano instruction at The Music Academy at age 4, where she was a Suzuki piano student of Marilyn Cade and also a student of Rockford Symphony Orchestra harpist Nanette Felix. She recently graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in piano performance from Maranatha Baptist Bible College. There, she taught in the Piano Prep School and earned Level I Certification from the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association. She is pursuing Suzuki teacher training for harp and will begin a Suzuki Harp Program at the Music Academy in the fall.
