Rockford Artist Jim Julin, who passed away Sunday, July 22, was remembered and honored at a flash gathering organized via Facebook, Twitter and e-mails. The gathering took place at Julin’s largest public work, “The Big Chair” at the Rockford Art Museum, 711 N. Main St. More than 150 people attended (pictured above), bringing flowers and many mementoes to decorate “The Big Chair,” including a large banner with a photo of the artist by local photographer Mike Donze mounted on the outside wall of the museum (shown in the left background of the photo below). Saturday, July 28, a fund-raiser was held at Octane Interlounge/Fuzz Salon, 124 N. Main St., one of Julin’s favorite establishments. A special menu of Julin’s favorite food and drink was created for the wonderfully-attended event. More such events are in the works.
